Perform a test backup on Microsoft 365 (AMBaaS version)

Please use the following steps to back up Microsoft 365 data using AhsayOBM.

  1. Open AhsayOBM and enter your credentials to log in.
  2. Before proceeding, ensure the Microsoft 365 authentication account has the required Global Administrator, Term Store Administrator, and Discovery Management permissions.

a. Assign the Global Administrator Role

  • Open the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
  • Go to Users > Active Users.
  • Locate the Microsoft 365 authentication account and click Manage Roles.
    Take note: The Global Administrator role is assigned by default for administrator accounts.
  • Under Admin Center Access, enable Global Administrator.
  • Click Save Changes to apply the role.

b. Assign the Term Store Administrator Role

  • Open the SharePoint Admin Center.
  • Go to Content Services > Term Store.
  • In the center pane, select Taxonomy, then click Edit under the Term Store section.
  • In the Edit Term Store Admins panel, enter the name or email address of the Microsoft 365 authentication account.
  • Click Save to apply the changes.

c. Configure Discovery Management Permissions

  • Open the Exchange Admin Center and sign in with an administrator account.
  • Go to Roles > Admin Roles.select Discovery Management.
  • Select Discovery Management.
  • Click Permissions and add Legal Hold, Mailbox Import Export, Mailbox Search, and Public Folders.
  • You may also use the search box to locate the required permissions, then click Save.
  1. Return to AhsayOBM, select Backup Sets, and click [+].
  2. Select Microsoft 365, rename the backup set, select Entire Organization, choose a region, and click Next.
  3. Authorize using your Microsoft 365 admin account, enter your credentials, and copy and paste the provided authorization code.
  4. Select the users to protect. You can select all or specific users, sort the list, or use the Search feature.
  5. Select the data to back up, including Outlook Emails, Archived Mailboxes, OneDrive, Personal Site, and Teams Chat.
  6. Select the Teams Groups, SharePoint Sites, and/or Public Folders to protect, then click OK.
  7. Use Filter to include or exclude specific data.
  8. Enable and configure the backup schedule as desired. Scheduling backups after work hours is recommended.
  9. Under Destination, switch the backup mode from Sequential to Concurrent when using multiple destinations.
  10. Add your preferred backup destinations, such as Ahsay Drive and a local or network drive.
  11. Keep the default AES-256 encryption setting and securely save a copy of your encryption key.
  12. Click Confirm.
  13. Select Backup Now to start the backup immediately or wait for the scheduled backup.
