Granular restore failed: No valid partition on Hyper-V Linux VM

Symptom

When performing a granular restore of a Hyper-V guest VM installed with Linux Operating System the following error message is shown by AhsayOBM "Failed to mount virtual disk "%virtual_disk_name%.vhd" (No Valid Partition Found)" .

Cause

Granular restore of Hyper-V guest VMs with non-Windows partitions is not supported. For example, guest VMs installed with Linux or Unix operating systems.

Resolution

To resolve this problem we recommend you either:

  1. Use RunDirect to power on the Linux or Unix guest VM to allow access the files/folders on the drive.

    OR

  2. Restore the Linux or Unix guest VM to Hyper-V host and power on the guest to access the files/folders on the drive.
