Installation
  • AhsayOBS is a part of the AhsayCBS (Ahsay Cloud Backup Suite) version 7.
  • The backup server, replication and redirection modules are all installed automatically when installing AhsayCBS.
Apache Tomcat Version
  • AhsayCBS version 7 is bundled with Apache Tomcat 7.0.59
Java Version
  • AhsayCBS version 7 is bundled with Java 1.7.0_76
Backup Data Structure
  • Changes are made to the file structure for backup data in version 7 to improve the backup and restore performance.
  • Backup source files that are 16 MB or smaller are now 'combined' into a single 16 MB 'block' file before they are transferred to the backup destination, which reduce the upload overhead. This also reduces the number of files in the backup destination.
  • Backup source files that are larger than 16 MB are now split up into multiple 32 MB 'block' files when transferred to the backup destination.
  • For AhsayOBM installation on NAS (a new feature of version 7):
    • Backup source files that are 8 MB or smaller are now 'combined' into a single 8 MB 'block' file when they are transferred to the backup destination.
    • Backup source files that are larger than 8 MB are now split up into multiple 8 MB 'block' files when transferred to the backup destination.

Manage System - Server Configuration

Login Name & Password
  • Settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at System Settings > Basic > Administrative Access
Host Name
  • Settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at System Settings > Basic > General > Host Name
Important Note:

The hostname / IP address configured must be unique (e.g. it cannot be the same hostname / IP address configured for another sub admin account).
System Home
  • Settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at System Settings > Basic > General > System Home
Policy Home
  • Same as version 6, but the location of the Policy Home is not configurable in version 7.
User Home
  • Feature enhanced in version 7. Further to setting a typical User Home volume for storage of backup data, a new Predefined Destination option is introduced in version 7.
  • A Predefined Destination provide administrators with option to pre-create a backup destination for backup users. A Predefined Destination can be set to a supported cloud storage, a FTP or SFTP server, a network volume, or a local / removable volume on the backup server that is setup by the backup server administrator.
  • User Home settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at Backup / Restore > Basic > User Home
  • Predefined Destination settings can be configured at System Settings > Basic > Predefined Destination
Auto Lock User
  • Feature enhanced in version 7. The following option is removed:
    • Lock backup user automatically after 3 invalid login attempts
  • The above setting will be removed after upgrading to version 7. Administrator must re-configure the server with the following options that are newly introduced in version 7:
    • Number of times within an adjustable time period (administrator can adjust the number of times within a configurable time when the IP / user is blocked from login)
    • Block login attempt from IP address as well as user for an adjustable amount of time (mins / hours).
    • Block login attempt from IP address as well as user forever.
  • Settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at Backup / Restore > Users, Groups & Policies > Policy Group > Default Settings > User Settings > Invalid Login Attempt Limit
Email System Settings
  • Feature enhanced in version 7. The configuration of the SMTP server settings remain the same when upgrading from version 6 to 7. Settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at System Settings > Basic > Email
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Administrator can configure the server to sign all outgoing email digitally (S/MIME).
  • Also, email can be encrypted with digital certificate to individual admin contact, and can BCC email to individual admin contact.
Proxy Setting
  • Settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at System Settings > Advanced > Proxy
Windows Active Directory (AD) Integration
  • Settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at Backup / Restore > Users, Groups & Policies > Windows Active Directory Integration
Redirector (AhsayRDR)
  • Settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at Redirection > Joining Redirectors > High Scalability
Windows Event Log
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Logging to Windows Event Viewer can also be enabled for AhsayOBM / ACB within their respective UI.
  • AhsayCBS setting can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at System Settings > Advanced > Logging
  • AhsayOBM / ACB setting can be configured in the client UI at Settings > Windows Event Log

  • Supported languages (languages that will be supported in version 7) selected will be automatically migrated when upgrading to version 7.
  • De-supported language (e.g. language that was supported in version 6, but not in 7), they will be disabled automatically after the upgrade. For backup server with "only" de-supported languages setting, AhsayCBS will default to English after the upgrade (e.g. this includes the language used in all reports sent).
Help / Install / Show Restore Links
  • Feature removed, there is no user web console for AhsayCBS version 7.
Auto User Home Allocation
  • Settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at Backup / Restore > Basic > User Homes
Free Trial Options
  • Settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at Backup / Restore > Basic > Free Trial Options
Configuration Recovery
  • Feature renamed to Auto Save Restore.
  • Auto Save settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at System Settings > Advanced > Auto Save
    • Note when upgrading from version 6 to 7:
    This setting will not be migrated automatically when upgrading from version 6 to 7, administrator must be configure the Auto Save setting after upgrading to version 7.
HTTP / HTTPS Connectors
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Administrator can add additional connectors to the server via the AhsayCBS console at System Settings > Basic > General > Connectors
  • Settings such as the IP, Port, Protocol, Max Connection, Connection Timeout and Max Keep Alive Request can also be configured in the same page.
SSL Certificate
  • Newly introduced in version 7. SSL Certificate for the AhsayCBS console can be installed (e.g. request of CSR, import of SSL cert and private key) via the AhsayCBS console at System Settings > Basic > General > SSL Certificate
Auto Save
  • Newly introduced in version 7 as replacement for Configuration Archival. Auto Save settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console at System Settings > Advanced > Auto Save
SNMP Monitoring
  • Newly introduced in version 7. SNMP trapping can be enabled via the AhsayCBS console at System Settings > Advanced > Logging > Enable SNMP Service
  • The MIB file can be obtained in the same page.
Runtime Options
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Runtime options for the server such as the following can be configured via the AhsayCBS console.
  • Java Options that include the following:
    • Maximum Java Heap Size
    • Minimum Java Heap Size
    • Thread Stack Size
    • Enable / Disable Signal Handlers
  • IP Restriction for the AhsayCBS console
  • The above settings can be configured at System Settings > Advanced > Runtime Options
    • Note:

    The AhsayCBS service must be restarted for changes to take effect.

User Reports
  • The following reports are sent by the backup server quarter-hourly or daily in version 7, settings can be configured in the AhsayCBS console under Backup / Restore > Users, Groups & Policies > Policy Group > Default settings:
    • Backup Report

    • Inactive Backup Set Reminder
    • Missed Scheduled Backup Reminder
    • Backup Settings Changed Alert
    • Active Directory Authentication Failure Alert

  • Administrator can select to send the corresponding alerts or reports instantly when available, a consolidated email report once per day, or both.
System Reports
  • System reports are sent by the backup server quarter-hourly or daily in version 7. System reports (e.g. usage and error report) are consolidated into a single report, the report will consist of information such as:
    • Problems:
      • AD auth failed, quota exceeded, trial end, locked accounts
    • Issues:
      • System security issues (e.g. Invalid login attempt, unauthorized API calls, disk space alerts)
      • User issues (e.g. Quota reminder, expiring trial users)
      • Backup set issues (e.g. Inactive > 14 days, missed scheduled backup)
    • Activities:
      • List of all backup / restore jobs, setting changes
    • Statistics:
      • Statistics of all backup accounts
    • Attachments:
      • Backup and restore reports of all backup accounts
System Jobs
Important Note:

The Retention Policy job can only be started via the client application, it is important that the client application is also upgraded to version 7, to ensure that the Retention Policy can be performed via the client application.

License Requirement
  • In version 7, replication module is required for replicating backed up data to a replication server / Cloud / FTP / SFTP storage, count per device to replication.

Selective User Replication
  • Feature enhanced in version 7. Administrator can select individual backup accounts or backup sets for replication.
  • The following options are modified in version 7:
    • Replicate all users
    • Replicate selected users only
  • When upgrading from version 6 to 7, the above settings will automatically be migrated.
  • If the "Replicate all users" option was enabled in version 6, the "Replicate individual backup sets" will be disabled in version 7. All backup sets of all backup accounts will be replicated.
  • If the "Replicate selected users only" option was enabled in version 6, all backup sets of all corresponding backup users will be selected automatically for replication, when upgrading to version 7.
  • Selective replication settings can be configured at Replication > Sending Data > Replicate individual backup sets
Default settings for new users
  • Feature enhanced in version 7. Feature simplified to specific handling of new paid or trial users.
  • The following options are removed in version 7:
    • Replicate new users added from API
    • Replicate new users added from LDAP
    • Replicate new free trial users
    • Replicate new users added from web interface
  • The above settings will be removed after upgrading to version 7. After upgrading to version 7, administrator must re-configure the following options for handling of new paid or trial users:
    • Replicate new backup sets of paid users
    • Replicate new backup sets of trial users
Replication Destination
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Backup server can replicate its data to another AhsayCBS, or to a Pre-Defined Destination that is set to a supported cloud storage, a FTP or SFTP server, a network volume, or a local / removable volume.

Replication Selection at Backup Set Level
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Administrator can select individual backup sets of backup accounts to be replicated.

    • System Overview - Status overview of all system resources and settings
    • CPU usage - Current CPU usage of the server
    • Memory usage - Current memory usage of the server
    • Storage usage - Current usage of all hard disks on the server and all predefined destinations
    • Live threads - All live threads that are running on the server
  • System error can be viewed at Monitoring > Dashboard > To Dos > System Errors
Live Activities

    • Backup Status - Live status of all backup jobs that are currently running or finished within 1 hour

    • Replication - List of all replication jobs on the AhsayCBS that are currently replication
    • Receiver - List of all replication jobs that the receivers on this AhsayCBS are receiving
    • Redirection - List of all redirection jobs that are currently running

Note when upgrading from version 6 to 7:

  • AhsayACB installations on Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, SBS 2008 and SBS 2011 cannot be auto upgraded to version 7.
  • AhsayACB installations on Mac OS X version pre-10.7.3 cannot be auto upgraded to version 7.
User Migration
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Backup account can be moved between User Homes via the AhsayCBS console.
  • Backup account can be exported and imported via the AhsayCBS console. This allows for easy relocation of backup accounts between different AhsayCBS servers.
  • Move, import or export backup accounts via the AhsayCBS console at Backup / Restore > Users, Groups & Policies > Backup User > Export Users (Circular icon under Manage Backup User)
Rebuild Storage Statistic

Per Destination Quota
  • Newly introduced in version 7. With the introduction of Backup Destination, administrator can now set Per Destination Quota of all backup accounts in accordance to the Backup Destination configured.
User Group
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Administrator can now modify the User Group of individual backup accounts in the User Profile page at Backup / Restore > Users, Groups & Policies > Backup User > Username > User Profile > User Group

Policy Group

Policy Assignment
  • Policy can be assigned to a User Group in the AhsayCBS console at Backup / Restore > Users, Groups & Policies > User Group > Select the corresponding User Group > Assigned Policy
Policy Changes from version 6 to 7 N/A
  • Important to note that, for all features that are enhanced or removed in version 7, all related group policies will not be migrated to version 7. For example:
    • Decrypt Local Copy Wizard related policies
    • Decrypt File Wizard related policies
    • File Explorer related policies concerning web restore (e.g. Undelete, Restore and Delete control of File Explorer)
    • User web console related policies
    • Client UI control related policies
    • Backup option related policies (e.g. Seed Load, Local Copy)

    • Quota related policies (e.g. backup quota based on compressed or uncompressed size)
    • Invalid login attempt limit (e.g. configurable limit within an adjustable time limit, block IP / user from login)
    • Password related policies (e.g. password expiration, password histry, complexity requirements)
    • Email related policies (e.g. send report instantly, send consolidated report, BCC email)
    • Backup Destination related policies
    • Utility related policies (e.g. control on Data Integrity Check, Space Freeing Up in Utility menu)
    • Preempted Values (e.g. enforcement values at backup set setting level)
