Installation
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Installation of the client application is now a 2-Step process. The initial size of the AhsayOBM / ACB installer is under 3 MB, once the installer is executed, common cross-platforms installation files will be downloaded from the backup server to complete the installation process.
  • Connection to the AhsayCBS server is required.

User Profile
  • User Profile can be viewed in the client UI at the Profile menu.
Encryption Recovery
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Users can enable this option to save their backup sets' encryption setting to Ahsay, allowing them to recover their encryption settings by contacting Ahsay support for assistance.
Decrypt Local Copy Wizard
  • Decrypt Local Copy Wizard is removed in version 7.
  • User can restore backup data on local destination in the client UI via the Restore menu.
Decrypt Files Wizard
  • The Decrypt File Wizard utility is renamed to Decrypt Backup File, it can be found in the client UI via the Utilities menu.

Backup

Backup Set
  • User can select a backup set for backup in the client UI at Backup > Select the corresponding backup set
Backup to
  • In version 7, the destination for a Local Copy or Seed Load backup must be created as in the Destination menu before performing the backup.
  • Backup destination settings can be configured in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Destination
  • To perform a Seed Load backup:
    • Select the created destination (e.g. the removable hard disk) in the Destination setting when performing a manual backup. Copy / Sync the backup data to the corresponding destination afterward (e.g. the User Home, or cloud storage location).
  • To perform a Local Copy backup:
    • Select the created destination (e.g. the local disk) in the Destination setting when performing a manual backup. Schedule backup will automatically backup the data to all existing storage destination.
  • To perform a Local Copy only backup:
    • Do not create a destination to the backup server storage when creating the backup set, or delete CBS as Destination for the backup set. User can also de-select the corresponding destination in the Destination setting when performing a manual backup.
In-File Delta Type
  • User can select a backup set for backup in the client UI at Backup > Select the corresponding backup set > In-File Delta Type
  • Note that for AhsayOBM installation on NAS (a new feature of version 7):
    • The In-file delta type is not configurable on AhsayOBM UI.
    • The In-file delta settings (basic and advanced settings) can only be configured via the AhsayCBS console at Backup / Restore > Users, Groups & Policies > username > Backup Set > In-file Delta
Run Retention Policy after backup N/A
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Important to note that the retention clearing job is now managed / performed by the client application in version 7. Backup Source
  • Settings can be configured in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Source
  • Advanced option (to select individual folder or files for backup) can be found in the same page by clicking "I would like to choose the files to backup".
Backup Schedule
  • Feature enhanced in version 7. The following backup schedule is the same in version 7:
    • Daily
    • Weekly
    • Monthly
    • Custom
  • These schedule can be configured in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Backup Schedule
  • The following backup schedule is removed in version 7:
    • Periodic Schedule
  • Instead of using a periodic schedule, user can utilize the Continuous Backup feature at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Continuous Backup > Define how often backup run
  • When upgrading from version 6 to 7, existing periodic schedule will be removed after the upgrade.
    • For installation on Windows, re-create the schedule by using the Continuous Backup feature.
    • For installation on Linux or Mac OS X, as CDP is not supported, the schedule backup settings will be lost and will have to create multiple backup schedules to meet their periodic backup requirement.
  • For AhsayOBM installation on NAS (a new feature of version 7), only Daily schedule type is configurable via the AhsayOBM UI. Weekly, Monthly, or Custom schedule must be configured via the AhsayCBS web console.
Encryption
  • Feature enhanced in version 7. The default encryption setting is:
    • Encryption key - A randomly generated sequence of 44 alphanumeric characters
    • Encryption Algorithm - AES
    • Encryption Method - CBC
    • Key Length - 256 bits
  • Encryption setting of each backup sets can be viewed in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Show advanced settings > Others > Encryption

Continuous Data Protection (CDP)
  • The Continuous Data Protect feature is renamed to Continuous Backup, some options are removed in version 7.
  • The Continuous Backup feature supports all backup set types (compared to only file type backup set in version 6), but this feature only available on both AhsayOBM / ACB on Windows platform.
  • Continuous Backup setting can be modified in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Continuous Backup
  • The following options are removed:
    • Time Mark Interval
    • Minimum Update Interval
    • Backup Source - Backup all files
    • Backup Source - Custom
    • Advanced CDP Setting (e.g. Backup Control on CPU usage / Network traffic / No input time)
  • The above settings will be removed after upgrading to version 7. If "Backup Source - Custom" was configured for the backup set in version 6, it will be migrated to use the backup set's Backup Source automatically.
  • The following option is the same in version 7:
    • Exclude Filter
  • The following options are new in version 7:
    • Define how often backup run
    • Only apply to files smaller than
  • Note:
    • Continuous Backup is not available for AhsayOBM installation on NAS (a new feature of version 7).

In-File Delta
  • The In-file Delta feature is modified in version 7.
  • The following option is removed:
    • Delta Merge
  • The following options are the same in version 7:
    • Default type
    • In-file Delta block size
    • Only apply In-file Delta to files large than an adjustable size
    • Upload full file conditions
    • Advanced In-file Delta setting
  • Note that for AhsayOBM installation on NAS (a new feature of version 7):
    • The In-file delta type is not configurable on AhsayOBM UI.
    • The In-file delta settings (basic and advanced settings) can only be configured via the AhsayCBS at Backup / Restore > Users, Groups & Policies > username > Backup Set > In-file Delta
  • Also note that the In-file Delta setting cannot be configured for MS SQL Server backup set. It is selected when selecting a Incremental or Differential backup.
  • In-file Delta setting can be modified in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > In-file Delta
Retention Policy
  • The Retention Policy feature is enhanced in version 7.
  • The retention clearing routine job is now managed / performed by the client application in version 7. User can start this job manually, or after a manual or scheduled backup job. Refer to the following KB article for details: How to start a retention policy job to clear out of retention data?
  • The option of "Remove retention files for overlap policy" is removed in version 7.
  • Retention Policy of a backup set can be modified at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Retention Policy
  • For AhsayOBM installation on NAS (a new feature of version 7):
    • Basic retention policy can be configured in the AhsayOBM UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Others > Retention Policy
    • Advanced retention policy can only be configured via the AhsayCBS console at Backup / Restore > Users, Groups & Policies > username > Backup Set > Retention Policy
Backup Filter
  • The backup filter setting can be configured in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Source > Filter
  • For AhsayOBM installation on NAS (a new feature of version 7), the backup filter option is not available.
Command Line Tool
  • The command line setting setting can be configured in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Command Line Tool
  • For AhsayOBM installation on NAS (a new feature of version 7), command line tool can only be configured via the AhsayCBS console at Backup / Restore > Users, Groups & Policies > username > Backup Set > Command Line Tool
Extra Backup
  • The Extra Backup options are simplified in version 7.
  • Off-Line Backup Reminder - It can be configured in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Reminder > Remind backup when last backup over tolerance period
  • System Logout Backup Reminder - It can be configured in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Reminder > Remind backup during Windows log off or shut down
  • Note when upgrading from version 6 to 7:
    • The "Show confirmation dialog before backup" option for Off-Line Backup Reminder is removed in version 7, the confirmation dialog will always be displayed before a backup job is started.
    • The "Email Notification" option is also removed in version 7.
Local Copy
  • Local Copy option has been integrated into the Destination feature (e.g. create a backup storage location to a local volume).
  • User can configure a backup set to backup to a local destination in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Destination
  • When upgrading from version 6 to 7, any existing Local Copy destination will automatically be migrated as a Destination to the corresponding location.
  • The following options are removed in version 7:
    • Local Copy only Retention Policy
    • Skip backing up to Ahsay Offsite Backup Server
  • When upgrading from version 6 to 7, the Local Copy only Retention Policy will be removed and the backup set's Retention Policy will be used instead.
  • The "Skip backing up to Ahsay Offsite Backup Server" setting (if enabled) will also be removed. However, since there is no Destination configured to the backup server, no offsite backup will be performed.
Bandwidth Control N/A
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Users can limit the transfer rate (on the average transfer rate, and not an absolute limit) when performing backup and restore.
  • The Bandwidth Control settings can be configured in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Bandwidth Control
  • For AhsayOBM installation on NAS (a new feature of version 7), the Bandwidth Control can only be configured via the AhsayCBS console at Backup / Restore > Users, Groups & Policies > username > Backup Set > Bandwidth Control
Options
  • The following options previously found in the Option menu of version 6 are moved to the Others menu in version 7:
    • Temporary Directory for storing backup files
    • Follow Link
    • Volume Shadow Copy
    • Compression Type
    • Backup File Permissions
  • The following option is removed in version 7:
    • Transfer block size
  • When upgrading from version 6 to 7, the Transfer block size setting will be removed after the upgrade.
  • Others menu can be accessed in the client UI at Backup Sets > Select the corresponding backup set > Others
  • For AhsayOBM installation on NAS (a new feature of version 7), the temporary directory, follow link, compression type setting can only be configured to a local directory on the NAS device.
Proxy Server Settings
  • The Proxy setting can be configured in the client UI at Settings > Proxy

Windows Event Log
  • Newly introduced in version 7. Logging to Windows Event Viewer can also be enabled for AhsayOBM / ACB within their respective UI.

AhsayACB

Installation / Upgrade
  • Installation of the client application is now a 2-Step process. The initial size of the AhsayACB installer is under 3 MB, once the installer is executed, common cross-platforms installation files will be downloaded from the backup server to complete the installation process.
  • Connection to the AhsayCBS server is required.
  • There are also new installation restriction imposed for AhsayACB on version 7, only supports Windows desktop platforms (e.g. Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 8.1). AhsayACB cannot be installed on any server grade Windows platforms (e.g. Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, SBS 2008 and SBS 2011 ... etc.)
  • However, AhsayACB users can now create mulitple backup sets of the following Backup Set Types:
    • File Backup
    • IBM Lotus Notes Backup
    • MS Windows System Backup
  • Note when upgrading from version 6 to 7:
    • AhsayACB installations on Windows Server 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2012 R2, SBS 2008 and SBS 2011 cannot be upgraded to version 7.
    • AhsayACB installations on Mac OS X version pre-10.7.3 cannot be upgraded to version 7.
Decrypt Backup Data
  • Newly introduced in version 7. User can now decrypt backup data directly using AhsayACB with the Decrypt Backup Data utility. The Decrypt Backup Data utility can be found in the client UI via the Utilities menu.
